(Inspired on 1 John 2:16– Lyrics by William McRea)
We chase the shadows, lost in desire
Eyes always hungry, souls catching fire
Blinded by riches, consumed by the chase
Searching for meaning, in a hollow place
But what have we gained if our souls remain empty?
What have we found in the glory we seek?
The lust of the eyes, pride of life
Promises sweet, sharper than a knife
Flesh that deceives, world that's untrue
None of these treasures ever lead back to You
Caught in the spotlight, living the lie
Hearts growing colder, the truth we deny
Every new pleasure, every new thrill
Still leaves us empty, unfulfilled still
What have we won if our hearts lose the battle?
What is the prize if we lose who we are?
The lust of the eyes, pride of life
Promises sweet, sharper than a knife
Flesh that deceives, world that's untrue
None of these treasures ever lead back to You
Strip away all these empty pursuits
Lead me from darkness, guide me to truth
Break down my pride, teach me to see
True life's only found when I rest in Thee
The lust of the eyes, pride of life
Promises sweet, sharper than a knife
Flesh that deceives, world that's untrue
None of these treasures ever lead back to You
Let my eyes see clearly, humble my heart
Keep me forever where You are
